"Started up Cole Trail but it was too icy to be safe and I left the traction in the car so skipped over to the road which was also icy but not dangerous. Rest of the trip was pretty straight forward with some snow drifts holding onto the shady areas and mud where the snow has melted. Great day with my best bud." — oregon-mt-goat • Jan 16, 2022
"An unusual trip up Powell Butte. All the old ways up are now closed due to the massive construction boom. It’s all private property all the sudden? Found a power line road that fed into an old mining pit. After .75 miles up the gravel mining road there is a downhill spur that you can follow that leads to a very obvious cow trail up the canyon. Continue on that trail until it becomes more like a quad trail and eventually finds its way to a spring. After the spring stay as high as you can as you pass through a unique pine forest and son find yourself on the summit plateau. You have to pass through three cow gates and have pretty good navigation to get up from the west side, but it’s doable." — oregon-mt-goat • Jan 14, 2022
"Quick trailrun end of day. Spectacular ~5K loop up Misery Ridge (with spur to near summit) and around the River Trail. Watching a climber rappel down Monkey Face in the setting sun stopped me in my tracks. Amazing loop to get a sense of Smith Rock State Park." — scott • Feb 29, 2020
"Second training hike for Kilimanjaro in February (spots available - hit me on the Twit) super windy on this day had to take shelter in one of the abandoned radio shacks on the summit." — oregon-mt-goat • Oct 16, 2016
"Found a gap in the rain to make it out to Smith Rock during an autumn visit to Bend. K and I hiked Misery Ridge the day after a really bad windstorm, at one point finding a (huge!) dead owl that had been taken down in the storm overnight. Bc of the bad weather and in Novemeber, we pretty much had the place to ourselves." — zachmitch • Nov 18, 2015
