A walking weekend based in Braemar. Set off from Invercauld Bridge on the long walk in to this mountain and Cullardoch. It was a fine day with some cloud and a threat of rain from dark clouds around. The state track goes through pine woods and then birchwood before emerging out onto the open hillside. We followed the track north, over a hillside and drop into Glen Feardar. continue over a wooden bridge and soon after leave the path and follow a stream, - the Allt Cul to its source, then climb up onto the SE summit of Carn Liath, where it is very windy and we have a short shower. Good views of the surrounding munros including Ben Avon and Beinn a Bhuird. We go across the summit to the NE top and then descend east back to a bealch on the main track, to go onto Cullardoch (900m) In the bealach, there is no sign of the hut that is mentioned in the guide book, but there is an experimental horticultural station.
