On a whim decided to go for a Double Dipsea run today. Last time I ran it was 2009! Started out slow to conserve energy and felt OK until Muir parking lot… but ugh the bridge was out. Detour added some extra distance but just kept it going slow up to Cardiac. Decision point, legs told me time to head back. But what? I just kept going down the huge descent to Stinson. The climb back up was punishing, my stride tightened to a shuffle by the time I hit Cardiac again. Really tough from here on out, hobbled back to Muir and grimly faced the final climb. Lo and behold my friend Narendra appeared at that moment to escort me back to the start. At this point I could only shuffle about at walking speed, so just walked the steeper sections. Soon enough was eking my way down the Dipsea Steps back to Old Mill Park. Beers and pizza afterward hit the spot. Can’t wait to do it again in 2035.
