After experiencing the high gas prices, I opted for a close to home Sunday. I had been meaning to return to Buzzard Peak, and today I got my wish. While studying Google Maps, I observed that there was a different trail than I used the last time. This one is at the end of South Garvey Avenue, right next to Interstate 10. When driving up to see it in person, I saw a trail sign for the continuation of the Schabarum Skyline Trail, which cuts across the Puente Hills. I figured to give this trail a shot with the hopes that it would give me access to Buzzard Peak. The trail passes through a nearby neighborhood via green belt easements before it climbs into the hills. Along the way, the trail overlooks the Forest Lawn Memorial Park and Mount San Antonio College. Once in the hills it rides the crest of a ridge and goes directly to Buzzard Peak, where I elevated a summit use trail. I found this trail approach to be nicer than the other trail I took on my previous visit.
