Today was the day to take someone, Chris, on this route that had never done it. The link-up between Burlap and Hidden worked out great. The fixed rope off of the N/NW end of Burlap proved to be easier than anticipated. It might have made it easier for Chris because I had done three times previously so I could give instructions. Before you use the rope, be sure that you are comfortable with the possibility that you could slide a little on the wall. There are some very small footholds. The descent gully back into Black Velvet Canyon has several options as to how to go down it. There are some cairns down it that actually follow a pretty good route. I have never gone the same way twice down this gully. There are a lot of options. The one thing that you are looking for....and is important to find....is a huge, dark brown boulder on a dark brown ledge (we called it the patio) just above the bottom of Black Velvet Canyon. It will come into sight as you are nearing the end of the descent gully. Stay to the left on the last section of the gully when you are approaching the patio. The descent off of the patio is down a series of ledges on the wall. Once in Black Velvet Canyon go down canyon and back to the TH. Great route! enjoy!
