The plan was to snowshoe up to Bonanza Peak, taking advantage of the recent storms that rolled through. But, when we got to the trailhead, there was no snow. We strapped our snowshoes to our packs & headed up the Bonanza Trail. After a couple miles, we finally encountered snow, but it was patchy & not too deep. About a mile before the saddle, we finally had enough snow to strap on the snowshoes for extra traction on the steep slopes. We wore them all the way to the summit, even though we encountered a few more bare spots. We removed our snowshoes & enjoyed a well-earned lunch at the summit. We decided to give it a go without the snowshoes on the way back. There were some icy spots, but nothing too difficult. Once we reached the saddle, we decided to make this more fun. We post-holed & glissaded straight down the NE Gully from the saddle! We made great time coming down & had a few laughs at each others' expense. Fun day!
