Great hiking Adventure, that's what it's all about. So don't take my summit log as a complaint! First trip of the year in t-shirts with temps around 60. Beautiful day for a hike. The lower part of this trail is slow and steady and following a stream with plenty of falls and nice views, very enjoyable. Guide book says stream crossings are easy, well not this time of year! There are no bridges on this trail, and took a good half hour of negotiating for the first crossing. Most of the trail was mud, then we reached a good 2 feet snow for the rest of the way up. This made for a strenuous ascent to black snout. The views were great and the wind was blocked so the summit was a good resting spot. Attempted to hike over to Mount Shaw but the deep snow and more importantly incorrect signs for distance prevented us from making the summit. Will be back in the summer as this was a great hike all in all. Definitely a rough trail this time of year but an awesome adventure.
