On June 24th, we headed down to the breezy, snow-free slopes of Castle Provincial Park for North Kootenay & Hollebeke Mountain. After driving about 5km down Carbondale River Rd, we had our fill of the pot-holes and parked in a large clearing. From there we rode around 4km to to the McDonald Pass junction and then continued on foot toward North Kootenay Pass. There were a couple of stream crossings but nothing requiring getting wet. Before reaching the pass we turned uphill for some light bushwhacking to ascend the easy slopes of North Kootenay Mountain. From there we headed down and over to North Kootenay Pass and up along the ridge to Hollebeke Mountain. To complete the loop we descended soft dirt slopes to the McDonald Pass trail - this was excellent for a soft descent but probably not great for ascending. Conditions were dry except a few muddy puddles which we avoided on the ride in, but blasted through on the way out.
