From Central station exit G I went up to the Peak Tram top station via Pedder St, left on Queens Rd Central, up the steps by Pacific House, the Albert Path, Albany Rd and Old Peak Rd.

Mt Gough is hardly worth bothering with, the actual summit being off-limits after annexation for gated luxury flats. I cast around to find the highest publicly accessible point and got challenged by a security guard who ventured out of his hut. We chatted a little; he hailed from Nepal and didn’t even realise there was a ‘mountain’ summit nearby:) So much high end real estate up here, with high security, cctv cameras, walls and razor wire.

Mt Kellet summit was also unattainable; I climbed some slope access steps then a little steep vegetation to somewhere quite near the top, but finally got barred by the perimeter fence of some government installation.

Pleased to leave the HNW ghetto behind I dropped down the pleasant Peel Rise on to the Hong Kong trail in Aberdeen country park. Turned off the HK trail to traverse minor peaks Tin Wan Shan and Bennet’s Hill, navigation courtesy of GPS and ribbon markers. Bennet’s Hill was the rougher going but rewards with a tidily maintained trig point on top and views over Ocean Park to Brick Hill and Deep Water Bay. There’s also a second, lower, summit requiring some scrambling on large blocks. My route ended at a bus stop with frequent services back to the other side of HK island. Ocean Park MTR also close by.
