I parked at the New Santa Fe trail head in Palmer Lake. From the parking area I hiked up the connecting trail from Palmer Lake toward the Greenland Open Space Park. Shortly after passing what appeared to be a utilities facility on the right, I came across a paved road going uphill to the right with a locked gate at the bottom. An opening for pedestrians and no signs lead me to believe that this route was fair game for hikers. I hiked up the road about a hundred yards to a dumping area and there I cut across southwest through dense forest and snow. The slope up Ben Lomand soon became steep and dense with trees and underbrush. I soon hit a cliff band and then went around it to the east. There the scrub oak became thick but I managed to find a way through to the flat summit. I stayed about 15 minutes and then descended the same route back down. No GPS with me but I'd estimate a 2 mile RT in about a little over an hour.
