If you are looking for a rock scramble, just go off the Pinhoti Trail when you get to the rocky ridgeline of Augusta Mine Ridge, but we prefer the trail. We hiked from Maxwell Gap. Gina turned back before halfway to the peak. I did a short, light bushwhack to the peak, then continued in search of a vista, but instead I found a dedication plaque that reads: "PINHOTI TRAIL // The easement for this 1500 feet of the Pinhoti Trail was donated by Audrey A. Furgerson in loving memory of her husband, Robert R. Furgerson // September 1993". Many thanks to Mrs. Furgerson, and hoping more will donate to turn more road sections into trails.
