A bright day in the Lake District, we set off from the head of Haweswater in Mardale. We climbed SE up Gatesgarth pass, then at the top turned SW and left the track to climb up to the summit of Adam Seat, a grassy outlying summit. From here we descended to the dip and then up to Little Harter Fell, where we rejoined the main track. From here there were good views back down to Haweswater and across the pass to Branstree. We then continued on up to Harter Fell main peak, enjoying good views of the surrounding Lake District peaks and tarns. From the summit of Harter Fell, we continued SE down the broad ridge and then up to to Kentmere Pike, enjoying good views of peaks near and far. After a short break on the summit, we retraced our steps to the col and back up to Harter Fell. Here we turned W and headed down steeply to the top of Nan Bield pass, then turned N and headed down steeply to a small mountain tarn called Small water. We walked round the lake, then headed down NE, past waterfalls to our start point in Mardale.
