1st day of a short break at Coniston. Cloudy blustery day, went up the old packhorse track called Walna Scar Road, which links the Coniston and Duddon valleys. Made a detour to Blind Tarn and into an old mine, near the summit. From the top of the pass, it is an easy pull up onto the summit. This was at cloud base level, so views were limited and intermitent. We continued along the ridge to White Pike, where the cloud had descended to cover the summit. When it briefly lifted, we had views to Caw and Black Combe. On the return we made a detour to the summit of White Maiden Pike and then returned via the Walna Scar track.
