"A twosie of Halcott to close the month of April for my 5th grid and Rusk just to make a fuller day. Four hours of driving and four hours of hiking not something I want to make a regular habit of, prefer a 2:1 of hiking to driving. The forecasted showers never materialized though there was a mix of clouds and blue sky/sun with short periods of total cloud cover. A bit on the humid side but the clouds and slight breeze kept things comfortable.
Red trilliums, trout lillies and Dutchman’s breeches are all popping out along with those dreaded black flies." — Nimblefoot • Apr 30, 2024

"Mimi and I met in the Shaft road PA to do an out and back hike of Sherrill and North Dome. We engaged in a very leisurely pace from the get go that lasted the whole day as we talked at great length on numerous topics. Additionally she was a bit tired from yesterdays hikes and her leg injury was acting up so we were passed by other hikers, who came from the Devils Path side, in both directions. A highlight for her was harvesting a bag full of ramps on our way out from one of two large patches we saw our way in. She planned to make Korean pancakes once she got home, later in the day she divulged the really simple recipe. The occasional breeze and light rain, barely noticeable, kept us cool on a fairly warm day.
We took a very long but enjoyable stroll to the peaks so by the time we got back to our cars at Shaft road it was too late to do Halcott and get home at a reasonable time for dinner with our spouses." — Nimblefoot • Apr 28, 2024

"Tom, Richard, Susan and I traversed the Burroughs range from Slide mountain TH to Woodland Valley. We encountered stretches of old but solid ice on our way up Slide that will most likely stick around well into the month of May. We also encountered plenty of blowdown from recent wind storms, maintainers will be busy when they get out there. Two of us wished we had packed our silky saws to do some preliminary trimming/removal to keep folks on the trail." — Nimblefoot • Apr 25, 2024
