"Gina climbed most of the way before stopping while I continued toward the top of Peak 2074 ft. At the end of the road shown on the maps, there is a level road bed going around the slightly higher peak. I walked around looking for the easiest path up, and as I was about to walk up, I looked down just in time to see a copperhead in my path. Startled, I instinctively yelled loud enough that Gina heard me. I stepped back, took a zoomed photo of the snake, and decided that was close enough to the actual high point, and Peakery gave me credit. On the way back down, a black snake moved on the side of the dirt road, startling me again, but right away I could see that it was not venomous." — davidensley • May 7, 2024
"The mountain laurel on Peak 1968 ft is beginning to blossom. All the trillium are past their peak, but the one that was knocked down by a fallen branch last year has bloomed again this year. The lady slipper still looks good." — davidensley • May 3, 2024
"Gina and I joined many others on a guided wildflower hike sponsored by the Benton MacKaye Trail Association. Some of us returned on the steep Duncan Ridge Trail, which the guide said was once part of the Appalachian Trail." — davidensley • May 1, 2024
"Hiked from Forest Service Road 251 on gated road to the grassy bald on the Benton MacKaye Trail, then explored the trail and a light bushwhack to search for the high point of Peak 3281 ft." — davidensley • Apr 27, 2024
"Beautiful hike with flowers blooming and a great vista near the peak of Akin Mountain! The peak is overgrown with briars, but a medium bushwhack is possible by following the rock faces. The Duncan Ridge Trail from Mulky Gap is a steep approach to the peak." — davidensley • Apr 18, 2024
