Foggy morning so it was nice to breakout of the fog on the summit. There's an old paved road that goes all the way to the summit. It's steep, narrow and crumbling in places. Not a road for the faint of heart. To get to the area, take US-70 west from Alamogordo. Between Holloman AFB and the White Sands National Park turnoff there's a road going south to the peak. According to maps its called WSMR S Rt 260 but it's signed, Walker Ranch, and has two gates. This paved road goes through BLM land so access is not an issue. Once you near the Walker Ranch, take the wide dirt/gravel road to your left to bypass the ranch. You will go through two gates. As you continue back on the main road look for a road tracking off to the right - that one goes to Twin Buttes. The road has some rough spots so best to have a high clearance vehicle although I recommend 4WD.
