Beautiful fall day hiking the Pinhoti Trail. More people on mountain bicycles than hiking. Gina turned back before we got halfway up Turkey Mountain. The trail was in great condition, but the bushwhacking was tough. I hiked past the peak looking for the best way up. I selected the steep open spot and ran into such thick briars on the west ridge that I abandoned that route and returned to the trail. On the way back I selected a spot that was not as steep but more of a bushwhack on the way up. This route got me to the peak of Turkey Mountain. After the hike we drove to Buddy Cove Gap, the highest point of the Pinhoti Trail, and walked around a bit.
