Day 4 of a walking holiday based in Bassenthwaite. We walked up from the village along quiet lanes for 2 km, left the road beyond High Side House and walked up through meadows, then onto the open hillside and up the ridge to the summit of Ullock Pike. Then we continued along the ridge to the summit of Long Side and Carl Side. After a short break, we dropped down the south ridge to White Stones, then turned W down to the col, crossed the fence into the forest and walked up to the summit of Dodd, which is a good viewpoint. From here we descended through the forest despite track closures for felling and then down open hillside to Millbeck village, then Applethwaite and across the valley on tracks and quiet roads to Keswick where after a swift beer we caught a bus back to Bassenthwaite.
