I've hiked many routes in the San Jacinto Wilderness in and around Idyllwild. This one was for my 53rd Birthday which I celebrated today, July 9.

I've been gazing at this peak for 18 years out my livingroom window. Feels SO good to have finally made it to the top at this, my first attempt. I feel so happy also to have done it without altitude sickness, sunburn or soreness in muscles or joints. I brought plenty of water but could have used more food. I favor chocolate Balance Bars and Gu. I had some other snacks and ate a PB&J at the top (best one ever). But I was hungry when I got off the trail!

It took me longer than I liked recovering. I didn't experience the high resting pulse rate until after the hour drive home and I lay down. Maybe I should have kept moving. But I ate a good dinner and went to bed. I was fine the next day, never short of breath. I liked using my hiking poles but forgot my gloves so I did get a couple of blisters on my hands.

I so enjoyed the sound of the busy creek keeping us company on the trail. Lady Bugs and beautiful huge Monarch Butterflys that greeted me at the Summit added to the majesty of the view.

Things get pretty clear up there on the trail. And I'm not just talking bout the air or the view. Hiking is so good for the soul and for your head if you dare go in there alone. Now you. Yeah you, take a hike!
