Leading a Waymark party based at Pralognan. We went up the track from the western side of Pralognon going ~NW. We reached la Montagne (huts) and then climbed SW up the steep Couloir de la Grande Pierre. There was some névé in the couloir, but it was not difficult. We continued north along Crête du Mont Charvet, a curious gypsum ridge (a little exposed in two or three places). We reached Col de Golet. Five of us ascended to the summit of Roche de Villeneuve and back while the others waited at Col de Golet. The reunited party descended to Pralognan via le Laitet and Lanchetton. The weather was good in spite of a gloomy forecast. Frequent showers, thunderstorms and high winds were forecast. In the event there were no showers or thunderstorms, only high winds.
