My Friend Nora and I took our dogs, Kali and Brooklyn on a very short hike up Pine Mountain in New Hampshire's White Mountains. The biggest part of the hike was a dirt road walk of a little over 2 miles, one mile to the trailhead and a bit over a mile back from the other part of the loop. We went up the Ledge Trail, which is short and steep most of the way. It's only about .6 of a mile to the summit, with some beautiful ledges with awesome views of Mt Madison and loads of other mountains. There were concrete legs left over from an abandoned fire tower at the summit. Past the summit, there were a few more great view points. One of them (Chapel View) had super nice views of the Carter-Moriah Range. There was a small shelter there and a bench near the edge.
Shortly after that, we came to signs telling us to go either sharply left to head back down the loop to the road, about .6 miles, or go right to head down a different trail to Gorham 2.7 miles. The third option was to go onto private property, which was not really an option. :)
We headed sharply left, through the woods on a nice twisty path that meandered moderately down to the road, then followed the dirt road back out, past the trailhead we'd taken up, and back a mile down to our car.
It sprinkled a little on the way back to the car, but just enough to feel good on our sweaty skin, not to really get us wet.
Fun, very short hike of 3.4 miles. It took us only three hours round trip, and we spent a good amount of time hanging out on the ledges and taking pictures.
