We made a loop tour through the Fanny/Boles Research Natural area. Our start point was a trail that departs northwest off the Boles Canyon Road, just a few hundred yards south of the Boles Canyon Road/Roby Canyon Road intersection. The trail was good to the area near 5800 Peak. A little off trail navigation via GPS and some minor rock scrambling to reach the summit. We found a small cache under a rock. It was a plastic container with a map/log and pen. It had been a couple of years since the last entry was made. Very nice view from the summit to the southern horizon. We hiked to the south on the west side of the canyon, making our way through mountain mahogany until we picked up another trail that paralleled the canyon rim to the south. A unique area with erosional features and rugged. We continued on the trail and back to the Boles Canyon Road. 4.5 mile loop.
