Went out to explore this area & climb this little peak that I've wondered about for years. I drove out the Pabco Road & then took a side spur into the wash (well maintained & even paved at the beginning). This road is right across from the road to the Gypsum Cave. Unfortunately, shortly after reaching the top, I started hearing gunfire from at least 2 different places, some of which sounded automatic. I quickly retreated to my car. I also saw many bullet shells around. The area is very pretty. I reported the gunfire (illegal in this area) to the BLM. Got an email back that did not leave me confident that anything would be done about it. In fact, they implied I was off-road & said that is illegal too. (I wasn't off-road & provided a gps waypoint showing where I was, which leads me to believe they don't even know the area they are in charge of). Pretty area, but be careful if you go check this one out.
