Long, difficult day. My Jeep was having issues & I thought I'd have to go into town to have it looked at. Decided to climb this peak before I did that. Went up over Big Ridge & up a very steep, loose ridge to summit. The talus was really sketchy. Decided to go down a canyon below Cass Creek Peak & it turned out to be awful. Took me much longer to descend than to ascend. The canyon had huge dry falls, steep loose talus & thickets of scrub oak. In one of the scrub thickets, I was picking my way through very slowly when a deer passed by not more than ten feet away. She knew there was no way I'd never catch her in that tangle & just mosied on by. After hike, I looked like I had been beaten with a stick. I had huge welts & bruises. It was a stunningly pretty hike, but one of the hardest I've ever done. I camped below Big Ridge on a short side road. It stormed that night, so I moved from the tent into the Jeep & got very little sleep. I figured out the next morning that the garage had not put antifreeze in the Jeep after some repairs & that was the only issue.
