Dubuque State Forest is well maintained with wide, old cart paths. Amazing old structure at the beginning of the trail, a massive stone beehive shaped 19th century charcoal kiln. Seriously impressive. The trails were all pleasant. The one on the north leg of this hike was less maintained but still passable. A little bushwhacking is needed to reach the actual summit of Parker Hill and its rugged going for a short stretch but not bad. Passed a couple old foundations on the way back. Interesting area.
