September 23, 2023. Starting to feel like winter in the Cascades. Smoky in the mountains, overcast, chilly, with a strong south wind on the summit. Mixed severity fire mosaic along the trail to the summit. Some high severity and some green patches. Limited downed trees that were not an issue. Saw one black-backed woodpecker along the trail and at least five Townsend's solitaire on top of the butte.
