This hike started from the Crest trailhead (upper trailhead) off forest road 108. If you lack a capable vehicle or just don't want to risk the rougher and steeper forest road 108, you will want to start from the Nogal Canyon Trailhead, where forest road 400 and 108 intersect. The Crest TH is a 1.2 miles hike up the road from the Nogal Canyon TH.
