The final two peaks of Rebecca’s Catskill 35 420 Grid quest. She recently turned 70 in January, though you wouldn’t know that from her always upbeat enthusiastic personality and her energetic pursuit of peaks. Befitting she would become 420 Gridder #70.
Assembling at the Shaft road TH for an out and back hike was Mimi, Susan, Tom, Amy and her hubby Qi under mostly cloudy skies with just hints of blue sky showing through. By 11:30 am we were celebrating Rebecca’s finish replete with the presentation of a 420 Grid certificate/sign, 420 Grid patch and a Single Season Winter triangle patch all nicely packaged by the headquarters of Hikers Anonymous.
After numerous photo ops of the whole group and with individuals, she wanted one with me because of my forthcoming move to Reno, we commenced on a snack fest.
On our return the clouds cleared offering blue sky and sun which brought the temps to more spring-like with the ground being completely bare and no need for the micro spikes dangling from our packs. With gaiters removed and footwear changed we relocated to Brio’s in Phoenicia for celebratory pizza and a very large custom cake that more than filled our bellies. Our waitress was very accommodating with plates and cake cutting tools even though the restaurant itself has many cakes/pies offered in its display case.
