Bert, Cat, Ryan, Brandon, Tara and I set out to Ya Ha Tinda to do Mount Minos in one awesome vehicle altogether! Bert and I have been out there a lot recently, having done Maze in November, then Labyrinth and Wildhorse Ridge this January. Minos was a bastard!!!!!!. The river crossing was easier this time as it was about 2C when we crossed in the morning and closer to 12 later on the way back. The initial bushwhack to the horse trail was fine, then a little bit more interesting crossing the drainage and going up some steep stuff! Then ... drumroll please... the pièce de résistance... the bushwhack. This was the worst bushwhack of my life. While I've seen far denser bush in the Adirondacks, this was the first time I had to go through it.... I felt like I was in the army in basic training in a field of barbed wire with a huge ass pack making my way under and over sharp, pointy branch obstacles, trying not to poke my eyes out or impale my groin.... Well, my eyes are intact but my inner legs have so many bruises and scratches it's ridiculous. Well, the rest of it was okay, but still a bit of an obstacle course. I must point out, however, that this was my 200th unique summit in the Canadian Rockies.... so it was special. And the summit views were 360! Warm, clear day and you could almost tan up on the dry, grassy summit if it weren't for the wind. All in all, a longer, more challenging day than others we've had recently. But memorable, and that's what you aim for, don't you?
