Solo. I followed the Merrick Trail from the road end in Glen Trool over Benyellary to Merrick. From the summit of Merrick I descended north over Little Spear and then ascended northwestwards up Kirriereoch Hill. I located the large smooth rock where the highest point lies. I also went to the cairn on the wall that marks the highest point of the historic county of Ayrshire as well as of the current unitary authority of South Ayrshire. I returned by my outward route. A pleasant dry day.
