Drove with my son up the fairly new Jebel Jais road, to the flat camping area.
Parked there around sunset time and walked the steep, powdery red dirt road toward the Sheikh's place and the summit. I carried quite heavy for the night's camping, my 6 year old son trotted ahead with a camelback.
Did second half in the dark, but once you reach around the ruler's place there's a bit of lighting around a small runway and later a stone/ concrete walkway from his house all the way to the high point in the UAE, with a large concrete majlis sitting area.
We pitched camp on a flat spot and hiked the nearby summit the next morning (see image). We crossed the oman border and hiked up to the highest point. The cliff offers a spectacular vantage point toward the RAK coast.
I hiked late because Dubai was still very warm, but this altitude gave us a good chill.
It's a shame it's fenced off now. I would like to go again.
