A cool but bright day, with some threatening clouds about. We started the walk from a minor road north of the village of Alnham. We walked up through some fields, before getting out onto the open hillside and climbed firstly up to the outlying peak of Hogdon Law. Here we had good views of the surrounding hills, including The Cheviot and Hedgehope. We then dropped to the col and across the heather moor, with no real path, before picking up a path by a fence that led to the summit of Wether Cairn. Here there were good views, to the SW to the Pennines, to the north to the Cheviot Hills and Scotland and east out to sea. Unfortunately a heavy shower of snow/hail then hit us, but only for 20 minutes.
