I'd wanted to do Herrick for quite some time, but wasn't sure how to access it. I recently read a blog about two guys who bushwhacked both Herrick &
Birdseye(which I've done) & I used some of that intel to help my cause. From the end of Birdseye Rd., I followed old logging roads for awhile until I got
below the west ridge of Herrick's northern summit. From here, I bushwhacked up the ridge which was quite steep until I reached the height of land. I soon
discovered that there was an access road leading to the northern summit & a trail leading past that to the real summit with a sign-in cannister. Great views
from the first summit(cell tower) of Birdseye & the High Peaks in N.Y. beyond. The true summit is wooded with only limited views. I followed the road back
down to the field where my car was parked. Note: The last section of Birdseye Rd. is not plowed, but can be driven if snow is not too deep.
