No Gallo Peak trail exists although there's a Forest Road 447N that leads halfway to the base of the mountain. This road goes closer but is completely washed out. The best approach is up the valley to a saddle on the north side, then straight up the north slope to the mesa top. This is bushwhacking on a steep loose slope - very demanding! On the level mesa, there is no sign of any trail and the pinon and juniper and oak is quite dense. Very difficult to get a good photo!
This hike/climb is also listed in Sherry Robinson's book on regional hiking - "El Malpais, Mt. Taylor, and the Zuni Mountains."
