Where Palm Avenue ends and Bailey Canyon Rd (FR 2N49) begins in Verdemont, the hike follows the forest road. In about 1.5 miles, a use trail leaves the road on the right side. The trail elevates to the summit of Devil Benchmark. Further down the ridge is Bern Benchmark (although I never found the physical Bern Benchmark like I did on Devil).
