With a friend. From near the war memorial to the north of Cruban Beag. We followed a track south, taking a branch SW and then following a fence. We had noted the crag signs on the OS 1:50,000 map, but thought we ought to be able to climb up the prow of the NE ridge of Cruban Beag. It was steep heather with snow and icy in parts. Higher up it became rocky and a bit icy so we decided to retreat as a slip could have unpleasant consequences. We contoured round to the west and climbed steeply up a leftwards slanting defile. This was also heather with snow, but we did succeed here to reach easier slopes leading to the summit of Cruban Beag. Saw an eagle. Descended the NW ridge, keeping to the left of crags. We came across a fence, which we followed down, keeping to the right of the fence. Low down we crossed a field with cattle in it to reach the road at a gate. No need for any fence climbing. Walked along the road back to the cars.
