Copper Mountain is located within the open space in between the towns of Joshua Tree and Twentynine Palms. It is also directly across Highway 62 from Joshua Tree National Park. However, once driving north on Mantonya Road for 1.3 miles to Siesta Dr., it is somewhere out in the wide open desert. I parked on Siesta Drive shortly before the dirt road became a 4WD type road. I set out on foot from there. The road goes all the way to the summit, although it is a bit deceiving at first, since the road parallels the hills for a long distance before elevating toward the high point. On top are two groupings of radio towers. I visited both facilities to assure that I reached the proper high point. As expected, there are good views of the surrounding desert and mountains. I returned the same way while appreciating the comfortable winter temperatures.
