Hike starts in the national forest (barely) next to Cloverdale Road (C001). There is no signed trailhead but there is a trailhead located at 31.4355, -108.9721. The trail starts behind a simple barbed wire gate next to the road, signed, "Please Close the Gate". The trail is marked with brown fiberglass markers for the first mile primarily because the NF trail is sandwiched by private land on either side. After that the trail fades away. One of the oddities is the number of stream crossings. Another is the thick stands of Manzanita, a bush/tree that one doesn't encounter much in New Mexico. I suggest the hiker stick to the grassy, open areas as much as possible to avoid the thick stands of Manzanita. Beautiful, very remote area.
