From a parking area off Highway 78, a trail drops to Santa Ysabel Creek then gradually climbs the northern slopes of the canyon to an upper viewpoint. There are good views on the way up and down. However, before going down, I went up Peak 1820, which was the highest point nearby, and only added about another half-mile to the hike.
