"Great short hike up the PCT and then up the spur to Donner Peak. Wildflowers in full bloom. This is a really cool peak with some interesting tiramisu-like turrets at the summit. Wandered around a bit to find an easy way to the true summit, some fun slab scrambling. Great views down to Donner Lake and south down the Sierra Crest." — scott • Jul 13, 2022
"Long snowshoe from Donner Pass to Mt. Judah, Anderson Peak, and Tinker Knob. The highlight was climbing up the broad chute on the north face of Mt. Anderson. Firm snow in the morning turned to a slushy mess with by the afternoon, making for a very tiring climb back up Mt. Judah." — klotito • Jan 16, 2021
"Parked at the Hwy 40 turnout. Walked through the old train tunnels and the walked on top to the base of the North East face. Ascended via the face in winter conditions. Descended via the north ridge back to car." — barrytimko • Mar 29, 2020
"Second peak of the Castle Peak 100K. After crossing I80 we ran through Soda Springs and began navigating up to the ridgetops above the Ice Lakes. First we would pass the Overload Aid Station and then a long steep climb up near Rowton Peak. I would have veered off course to bag that one, but with 55 miles on the legs and the elevation getting to me, I thought it best to keep moving towards the finish. Once up on the ridge, we had an epic traverse over to Crow's Nest. Relatively level terrain made for fast running, before perhaps a couple hundred meters of climb to the summit." — rsnipes • Aug 18, 2018
"Third peak of the Castle Peak 100K. After summiting Crow's Nest, we navigated the craziest, most insane part of any race I've ever done. We ran down on the backside of Mount Disney, traversing across the scree field in the general direction of Mount Lincoln. Eventually we would begin climbing, cross back over to the frontside of the ridge, and pick our way through the rocks across the top. Needless to say, the going was slow. We finally reached the bottom of the climb in earnest, where a series of fixed ropes would aid our ascent to the summit. The 1.5 mile section would take nearly 45 minutes, and by the time we reached the summit I was spent. I had to sit for a few minutes sipping ginger ale and energy gels before I could continue. The views were incredible." — rsnipes • Aug 18, 2018
