"Early start for a long walk to the Rastkogel 2762m via Penken. Morning mist in the valley, we got the lift up to the 1st station and walked up to the Penken ridge, above the clouds to see good views of the surrounding peaks. From the summit of the Penken, we continued along the ridge and climbed up to the summit of the Wanglspitze 2420m, then along the ridge, by passing another peak, before climbing steeply up the Grindlscharte and along the rocky ridge to the summit of the Rastkogel." — davidlong • Sep 2, 2013

Very little snow, compared to the previous ascent a month earlier. Here the clouds built up again, but good views before it closed in." — davidlong • Sep 2, 2013
"Hot sunny day, but with threat of thunder. Went from Mayrhofen to Penken,, then up to Wanglspitze (7940ft) from here along ridge past the top of a closed ski tow, then up steeply to the Grindlscharte, then along a rocky ridge with snowfields to the final 400ft steep climb to the summit. Here the cloud began to close in and within 5 minutes of descending, the summit cone was obscured and thunder began rolling around the mountains." — davidlong • Jul 18, 2013
"1st day of a weeks walking trip to Mayrhofen. We went up the lift to the 1st station, then walked up onto the Penken ridge, enjoying good views of the surrounding peaks, in hot sunny weather. At the end of the ridge, near some ski cafes, we turned NW and walked on the broad path to Wanglalm, then up steeply to the summit of the Wanglspitze. Here we enjoyed good views all around. We continued over the summit and dropped W into a large bowl and unfortunately were caught in a heavy thunder and lightning storm as we descended 1200m to Vorderlanersbach, to catch the bus to our start point." — davidlong • Aug 2, 2012
"First day of a walking break in Mayrhofen. An easy starter walk, up the lift to the middle station at Bergrast, then walk up onto the summit ridge at Gschossberg 1994m, then along the ridge, up to the summit at 2095m, where there ae mountain cafes. From here we took the main path towards the Wanglalm, before dropping down to the Schrofenalm 1600m and then down through the woods and meadows to Vorderlanersbach 1200m, where we caught a bus back to Mayrhofen" — davidlong • May 31, 2012
