"Did Hyndman on Friday, second time on this one. I am still in awe that this is listed as easier than Bora, the last on both is tough climbing as far as steep but I think this one is the worse of the two . Chicken out is so over rated , it has appearance of severe and some comments but really it's just a couple of spots and go. Hyndman is spectacular for water and scenery ! And the flowers in July are amazing ." — twobitmuley • Sep 4, 2020

"Scenic and relaxing birthday jaunt with Mom and Dad. We were targeting Proctor Loop, and I thought I'd tag the summit real quick. In my haste, I forgot to check whether I was heading toward the right hill, and ended up summitting a point with scarcely 30 feet of prominence that continued on to Morgan Ridge! Alas, Proctor Mountain's summit was a bit too far away to try after I realized my mistake. Still too smoky for my taste, but the Pioneer area is great even in the foothills, especially with fall on the way. Finished up the day with some grub at Lefty's and some well-earned crazy chocolate cake at home." — robkleffner • Sep 10, 2018
"3rd and final day in Idaho. After Thompson and Borah, legs felt a bit leaden at the start of this classic Idaho 12er, the highest in the Pioneer Range.
After a flat hike for 2.5 miles through wide meadows and aspen groves, the warmup's over. From then on out it's Game of Vert. Climbing in an alternating steep-flat rhythm, the trail finally reaches Sundance Lake at the foot of the towering Hyndman Peak. From here it's a puzzle to get to the saddle between Hyndman and Old Hyndman while avoiding as much talus as you can (if you veer right in the middle of the first talus field you'll find a good route). From the 10,800 saddle, it's a tedious traverse and then climb up talus slopes to the summit.
Going down, the fastest route is to just head straight down a talus- and scree-filled gulley that spits you out well below the saddle. A long, tedious descent but much more direct. Going up this gulley would be challenging given the dirt/scree but seemed doable.
Once back on terra firma the long hike out is really scenic... would love to come back here in the early summer to see the wildflower bomb.

"Awesome trip. The views weren't that great because of smoke in the area. This is definitely a great hike, I love this area. We saw a few mountain goats on the way down. My girlfriend and I were the only ones out here on this day." — Asaking • Aug 17, 2012
