An even bigger challenge in Japan's mountains for the truly obsessed, Japan's 300 Famous Mountains (日本三百名山 or Nihon Sanbyaku-meizan) includes 300 peaks (the original 100 Famous plus 200 more). Note peakery only includes the 3rd set of 100 peaks here. Also note it includes 101 mountains because Warusawa-dake is included in the Japan 200 Mountains but not in 300 Mountains (just to make it more confusing!).
Created by the Japanese Alpine Club (日本山岳会) in 1978 as an extension of the Japan 100 Famous Mountains challenge. Thanks to peakery member Yoshihito Niimura for help with this challenge.

"Used the last day in Kansai to summit the highest mountain of Osaka, Yamatokatsuragi-san. The name stems from the city in neighboring Nara prefecture, and the mountain sits on the border between Osaka and Nara. There is a ropeway that one can take but it is quite expensive with 950 Yen one-way or 1500 Yen return trip. While some sections on the mountain are a bit steep, it is nor very difficult to hike. It takes about 2h to the summit for a person in normal condition. The summit area is a wide and open plain with some views on Nara and Osaka Bay. The summit marker is a weird object that looks like a bar graph diagram, lol. And there is also a post box right next to it. Right below the summit are a restaurant where the usual mountain foods are served (Sansai Udon/Soba, Curry etc). Its a nice half a day hike if the weather god feels gracious." — kyotoben • Oct 29, 2023

"A bus ride from Koyasan reached the end of the route. Had 10 minutes before the bus left, so ran to the top and came down in time. Caught the bus and then got back to Koyasan." — steverd • Jul 17, 2007
"A train ride to the west of Biwa Lake took us to the local station. We then walked through he town and followed the road upwards until we hit the end. The path then took us through forests by rivers and streams and we saw waterfalls on the way. At the top was a ski slope, which we caulked across and came down the other side via an old tree. "Managed to get a lift to Mitsue Village and to the bottom of the mountain. There was a lot of snow and we went up a path alongside a large waterfall. The path went all the way zig zagging up the hill to a set of wooden steps. Path continued up, through the forest. Once on top of the ridge we came across some huts for weary travellers. Continued along the path which got us to the top." — steverd • Mar 4, 2006
