"Pinnacle Rd was closed beyond the Springs due to icy roads so we started our ascent from Collinsvale instead of the bend on kunanyi. We warmed ourselves by ascending through lush myrtle forest carved by swift waterfalls until the canopy thinned and the subtle papery correa flowers began to appear alongside spiny hakeas and fruiting waratahs. Currawongs were making a ruckus somewhere up the mountain at about the point a powdering of snow appeared at around 950m elevation. Slicks of ice every so often to keep us alert, particularly once we hit the wider East West fire trail. Thankfully the rock hop up to the summit of Collins Bonnet was more sure footed and easy to navigate with well marked poles. We shared the beautiful snowy summit with a dapper chap in a beret and denim shorts and marvelled at all of the 360 degrees of view on offer." — FinniganPeakbagger • Aug 1, 2021
"The icy East West fire trail had mostly melted and turned to slushier clay by the time we had summited Collins Bonnet, so the going was faster to the beginning of the Trestle Mountain ascent. The boulder strewn trail, where some beautiful lichens and fungi were on show, was well marked with green plastic star pickets and cairns making navigation to the the top stress free. The summit itself was a narrow ridge giving awesome 360 degree views all over south-eastern Tasmania." — FinniganPeakbagger • Aug 1, 2021
"We didn't climb this mountain we drove to the top. I know I shouldn't even log it, but I just want to have a memory of the day we went there. Shout out to all of you who climb it 🙌" — Asha • Dec 24, 2020
"After a very wet and windy morning, it looked as if the weather might be easing. Drove up to the car park at Mount Wellington VK7/SC-001 and walked to teh high point. The wind was still strong. Retreated to a public shelter and activated the summit with a 2 m handheld radio, making 5 contacts. returned to teh car and headed back to Hobart." — peterfreeman • Jan 30, 2015
