From NM-9 turned south onto CR-A001. Followed it past the old Birchfield Ranch, the road becoming progressively worse. I parked not far from the border and made my way to the southern ridge, took it to the summit then came down a more direct route off the east side of the mountain. I don't recommend following CR-A001 to the end. Better to take the road to the border then follow the road along the border fence until your south of the mountain. This area was under construction the day I hiked. When I got back to my vehicle after the hike I cut across to the border road using an old 4WD track. Sketchy. Anyway I made it and drove back through the construction site. I wasn't welcomed but oh well there was no alternative. I turned off the border road onto the access road to NM-9.
