Our 3-man climbing party approached Canlusong, a village in the southwest base of Calaptan Pk on September 19, 1998 from Capitan Ramon, a village along the Patag Road. Without guide and without any map, we climbed the forested southwestern slopes of the peak. Very exhausted, we set up camp on the scrubby western ridge close to the summit. We reached the summit early in the morning of the third day.

Our party headed down to the northwest for the descent despite having used up our water supply at breakfast and having no assurance of finding a water-source along the way. We paid for our boldness when we found a water-source after more than eight hours. We had our lunch late in the afternoon. We completed a traverse to Barrio Gawahon.
