My wife Sharon and her sister Brenda decided to take a day off from work, on a Monday, to do something together. We were heading back to the east coast the next day. Brenda mentioned heading up to Half Moon bay and doing something called the Devil’s Slide which sounded intriguing. Of course I’m thinking something like a slide in the Adirondacks that makes for an interesting approach to a summit.
We headed up from Sunnyvale/Saratoga to Half Moon Bay on route 1 and cruised right through the new tunnels and ended up in Pacifica. Lost in conversation we missed the southern parking lot. After refueling the car and re-caffeinating ourselves at Starbucks we heads to the northern parking lot.
A nice civilized stroll on the old paved road getting ocean views that included Egg Rock and the old bunker up on a point that was closed off. Down past the southern parking lot we were able to climb a small hill with the old bunker covered with spray paint graffiti. I tried getting into it but no such luck.
After strolling back to the car we headed back down route 1 to Sam’s Chowder House for some chowder and seafood. Visited two breweries for some liquid libations before taking a walk on a local bluff to finish our day.
