Embarrassingly easy climb, but it was unclaimed on this site, so it’s mine now! Any day in the October woods is good, even if the views are less than dramatic. Brier Knob looked great on maps and in online aerial photos. Any peak above 2,500 feet is respectable around here. Plus it was on public land—the Gallitzin State Forest (named after an eccentric Polish missionary priest who tried to convince people he’d been a prince back in the old country). Finding this place is half the fun—just off the narrow dirt lane called Crum Road on the edge of the Clear Shade Wild Area.
