Nice views from the mountain, a remote location in an old mining district. Beacon Hill is located in the Little Hatchet Mountains west of the old mining settlement of Old Hatchita. Primary access to the area is via a road off NM-9, near mile marker 39, several miles west of the village of Hachita. You can also come in from the west, via a 4WD road that branches off Little Hatchet Mtn Road, as I did. Regardless of how you access the area, you need to have a HC-4WD vehicle. I noticed the roads are especially subject to washout often creating steep approach/departure angles. I dragged bottom several times. Furthermore, as is often the case, roads shown on maps don't match what's actually on the ground. Some roads no longer exist while others have been created. Spotty if any cell phone reception.
