"This is the first ridge inside England when traveling south on St. Cuthbert’s Way out of Scotland. Took a quick bushwhack off the trail to reach the summit before rejoining my group. As with many local hilltops, there’s a large rock cairn at the crest and no trees, so the view is broad. It’s so quiet out here, nothing but sheep and crows and ancient memories of the forgotten kingdom of Northumbria, which was centered in these parts in the “Dark Ages.”" — briansnyder • May 25, 2024
"Setting out from Shipley Bridge but taking the road up to the filtration station before picking up the old tracks to Black Tor. Then straight out to Eastern White Barrow for lunch in the beating heat. Quick descent down to the Avon Dam before ascending the other side up to Gripper Hill, dodging the Adder sunbathing on the track as I went. Back along the ridge line to Shipley Tor and then backtracking down into the valley to cross the bridge and return via reservoir road. 12.7km. Sunny. Solo. " — MuchMoorWalking • May 11, 2024
